The Ferrari 400 i heralded the introduction of fuel injection to the model in 1979 to meet US emissions requirements - with about a 10% reduction in power. A series 2 400i was introduced in 1982.
The series 2 evolution raised power slightly with modified cams and exhaust manifolds and there significant improvements to the car's interior. Minor external differences were added and Michelin TRX low profile tyres were fitted. 883 automatic and 422 manual examples of the 400i were produced from 1979 to 1985
